Hawkeye Hero – Dance Marathon Weekend

Every week we receive many applications for the University of Iowa Hawkeye Hero of the week. These students/faculty/staff perform extraordinary tasks and jobs that inspire others, improve the lives of everyone around them, and are an absolute pleasure to have here on campus. With Dance Marathon, this weekend, this week’s hero felt like a natural fit.

“We’re creating tomorrow, by dancing today”

We want to take a moment and first thank all dancers and volunteers participating in Dance Marathon 24 this weekend. Your commitment and your drive changes lives for the better and is inspiring to all of us here at the University of Iowa, and around the world.

This week’s Hawkeye Hero is Riley Coyle. Riley is a fourth year here at the University of Iowa and was nominated by her roommate Megan Frischmeyer. Megan reached out to our office, and it was clear to us that Riley was deserving of this nomination, especially with the Dance Marathon Big Event right around the corner.

My friend Riley is a Hawkeye Hero because she is the Hospital Director for Dance Marathon 24 and is dedicating her life to being a Child Life Specialist so she can ease the pain of children facing serious illnesses. She is the most empathetic and selfless individual I know. She volunteers hundreds of hours on the 11th floor of the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, inspiring everyone around her to make a difference. In addition, Riley courageously leads an organization of well over 2,000 people to push themselves to change the lives of pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients. – Megan Frischmeyer

Riley is one of nearly 3,000 UI students to partake in the big event, raising money for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Riley, from all of us here at the University of Iowa, thank you for your time, commitment, and your energy. Good luck this weekend, and as always, go Hawks!
